If one drives around the island, they will come across dry landscapes and some of the parks located in those areas will seem like oasis’s coming out of nowhere.
The Atlantic's windy nature, warm water temperatures and the well developed infrastructures contain an excellent place for all kinds of water sports. It is not random that this island has around thirty world champions in several sailing disciplines and six Olympic Gold medals. Also on the east and south coast, more than 50 world record size catches in deep sea fishing have been achieved.
Many hotels there offer well organized sports facilities or have contracts with sports centres to provide their clients with the prospect of activities like golf, tennis, sailing and windsurfing. Extremist sports such as hang-gliding, paragliding and climbing are favoured by the winds and the mountainous features of the island, so if you're into more risky sports just look for one of the many specialized companies based on the island. |
