Itinerary

The tour begins in Maspalomas/Playa del Inglés. First we’ll drive North on the motorway, then we’ll head from the coast into north-central Gran Canaria.

  1. Our first stop is at the viewpoint Mirador de Valsequillo with a panoramic view of the central and eastern part of the municipality of Valsequillo.
  2. Following our drive to VEGA DE SAN MATEO. We’ll visit one of the most popular traditional agricultural produce markets on the island of Gran Canaria. See the rich diversity of local produce on sale, including vegetables, fruits, herbs, meat and cheese, as well as flowers, savor gastronomic specialties of the region. The Dulces San Mateo (confectionery) is situated in the old town of San Mateo amid cobbled streets and well-kept cottages. Don’t miss trying a cake in the most famous confectionists in the area. It’s a cake heaven…
  3. Upon driving to the capital city LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA you will observe the green and fertile landscape that surrounds the road. We’ll spend around 4 hours in the city, visiting important and hidden places as well. Our first stop offers a great view to the old town and the cathedral Santa Ana and the Atlantic Ocean as background. Then explore the historic city center. You’ll have 1.5 hours free time to stroll through the quiet streets of the Vegueta quarter, and/or visit museum(s). Explore the typical colonial architecture and the Casa de Colón museum. The Plaza de Santa Ana is a center of social life in the old city area, and surrounded by the Cathedral Santa Ana, the Episcopal Palace, the town hall, and the dog statues that represent and symbolize the origin of the name of Gran Canaria. You can visit the traditional sunday handicrafts market and enjoy an appearance of a traditional canary dance group. You have the opportunity to explore one of the main shopping and business areas, the Triana street and the surrounding area. There is a wide range of shops of all kinds, including crafts shops and big-name boutiques. The area is also full of outdoor cafés and restaurants. The shops at the Triana street on Sunday are open only on the first weekend of the month!
Please note the entry tickets: Casa de Colón 4 euro, Museo Canario 5 euro, entry ticket to the top of the cathedral cost 1.5 euro. Visiting inside the cathedral during the fair is free.
Next we’ll visit the oldest and one of the most exclusive hotels in Gran Canaria. On the edge of the modern town, near the Ciudad Jardín or “Gran Canaria Gardens City”, the Doramas Park is home to the Hotel Santa Catalina and the Pueblo Canario which is an architectonic complex of houses that represent the typical canary architecture. The park itself has a variety of autochthonous plants, loads of palm trees and dragon trees. There are also a few fountains and waterfalls.
A short drive to the gorgeous viewpoint Altavista, overlooking Las Palmas and the harbor.
Finally explore the city’s main beach, the Las Canteras, one of Europe’s best city beaches. It has three kilometres of golden sand and its promenade is lined with local restaurants and cafes. Ideal place to relax and for a refreshing drink on the seafront.
  4. The excursion continues to the stunning Caldera de Bandama. The volcanic crater 1000 m (3281 ft) in diameter and 200 m (656 ft) deep, with a 569 m (1867 ft) high peak. At the top the views are incredible down into the crater and across the oldest golf courses of all Spain and out to the city Las Palmas and the ocean.
  5. Our last destination on this tour is Barranco de Guayadeque. In this grand valley there are many cave houses that are still inhabited today. There are also cave restaurants, pub, souvenir shop and a small cave chapel. This ravine gives an interesting insight into the life of the Guanches, the aborigines.

    • Plus many more great views and landmarks along the way.

    • Relax during the journey back to your hotel, where the tour concludes.
