Details, Itinerary

Impressive coast with lava stones and breathtaking mountain landscape. Get to know the beauty and power of nature!

On this tour we discover the unique and spectacular nature of the north of Gran Canaria.
Simple things make life more beautiful… Would you like to immerse yourself in the view of the wonderful spectacle of the endless ocean? Or watching the play of the waves on the huge cliffs? And do you also like to enjoy the gorgeous view of the mountains?
On this tour we get an insight into the wonderful natural scenery of Gran Canaria, seasoned with interesting facts about agriculture. economy, history, everyday life and much more. The sedateness of the island will enchant you too.

➣ During the tour we invite you to a cozy alfresco picnic where you can taste some of the products of Canarian gastronomy. (This is not a main meal, we have selected picnic treats and snacks in the basket, which are often found on the table of the locals.)

On this day you can expect mostly simple urban walks, although there is also an uneven, rock-strewn section during the tour.
On cloudy days in the winter months (December-March), we recommend that you bring warm clothing, as it can be windy on the coast and in the mountains at an altitude of over 600 meters the air temperature can be around 10 degrees.

9:00 am
9:00 am

The tour begins in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at 09:00. Meeting point is at the port exit (about 2 minutes walk from the gangway of your cruise ship, see the “where we’ll meet” picture below). We’ll wait for you at the stated time.

Salt evaporation ponds

Our first stop is an impressive place on the rocky coast. Here we will find the only example of salt evaporation ponds on rock foundations, which have been preserved, not only on the island of Gran Canaria, but in the entire archipelago. The salt evaporation ponds probably date from the 17th century and were in use until the middle of the 20th century. We can still admire how the salt was previously extracted from the ocean water.
We can reach this spot by a short walk but this does require appropriate footwear because it's a slightly slippery and stony road section.

Banana plantation

The tour continues to a private banana plantation owned by our family. In the past in Gran Canaria, banana production was of great importance, which has gradually declining with the rise of tourism. Nevertheless, it still plays an important role in the local economy. On the plantation you can see and learn facts and curiosities about bananas that maybe you don’t know. Do you know when and how often a banana is harvested in a year? And is it really a tree?

Fishing village, natural lava pools

Next we drive to an idyllic fishing village on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria. The port is well known for its excellent seafood restaurants, full of charm, Canarian character and atmosphere. The buildings, painted in blue and white, are almost like they’ve been taken out of a Greek village. Unlike the southern part of the island the beaches here are covered with a mixture of black lava rock and dark sand. With a short walk we can easily reach the peculiar natural lava pools, which are mainly the typical bathing places of the north coast. It's a truly unique place created by a solidified volcanic lava flow. However, these pools originally served a completely different purpose than they do today. Exactly what they was used for, when, and why not these days, will be revealed during our walk.

Valley of Agaete

We’ll have a short visit in the Valley of Agaete. This green and fertile valley is one of the most beautiful valleys of Gran Canaria. Thanks to its microclimate, the valley has a rich flora from cactus to pines and a variety of plantations (fruits, vegetables and also coffee), and it's surrounded by a charming mountain landscape.

Viewpoint

After our delicious Canarian picnic we return to the coastline.

Our next stop is for a photo break at a viewpoint, overlooking the northern coast of the island where you can enjoy a great view of the coastal settlements and banana plantations.

Viewpoint

To conclude our tour we’ll stop in the capital at a viewpoint, overlooking Las Palmas where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the harbor and your cruise ship.

Plus many more great views and landmarks along the way..

A short drive back to the harbor, where the tour concludes at 15:30.
