Itinerary

We’ll meet at the cruise port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at 9:30. Meeting point is at the port exit (about 2 minutes walk from the gangway of your cruise ship, see the “where we’ll meet” picture below). We’ll wait for you at the stated time.

• Our first stop is an impressive place on the rocky coast. Here we will find the only example of salt evaporation ponds on rock foundations, which have been preserved, not only on the island of Gran Canaria, but in the entire archipelago. The salt evaporation ponds probably date from the 17th century and were in use until the middle of the 20th century. We can still admire how the salt was previously extracted from the ocean water.
We can reach this spot by a short walk but this does require appropriate footwear because it’s a slightly slippery and stony road section.

The tour continues to a private banana plantation owned by our family. In the past in Gran Canaria, banana production was of great importance, which has gradually declining with the rise of tourism. Nevertheless, it still plays an important role in the local economy. On the plantation you can see and learn facts and curiosities about bananas that maybe you don’t know. Do you know when and how often a banana is harvested in a year? And is it really a tree?

• Next we drive to Puerto de Las Nieves. This village, which is actually the port of the town Agaete, is located at the north-west coast of Gran Canaria. Puerto de las Nieves is an idyllic fishing village and well known for its excellent seafood restaurants. Many of the impressive buildings are blue and white, almost like they’ve been taken out of a Greek village. There are also two beaches in the village. Both beaches have dark lava sand mixed with rocks. With an easy walk we’ll also visit the peculiar natural pools.

• We’ll have a short visit in the Agaete Valley. This green and fertile valley is one of the most beautiful valleys of Gran Canaria. Thanks to its microclimate, the valley has a rich flora from cactus to pines and a variety of plantations (fruits, vegetables and also coffee), and it’s surrounded by a charming mountain landscape.

• Our next stop is for a photo break at a viewpoint, overlooking the northern coast of the island where you can enjoy a great view of the coastal settlements and banana plantations.

• To conclude our tour we’ll stop in the capital at a viewpoint, overlooking Las Palmas where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the harbor and your cruise ship.

• A short drive back to the harbor, where the tour concludes at 16:00.
