Details, Itinerary
On this tour we will discover the most important and well-known sights of Gran Canaria.
Through the little towns, we gain insight into the culture, history, architecture of the island, and the lifestyle and customs of the Canarian people. From north to south we will cross the entire island through the highest mountain peaks, therefore we can also admire the island’s unique natural beauties. However, we can also observe a huge contrast of vegetation between the northern and southern parts of the island.
➣ During the tour we invite you to a cozy alfresco picnic where you can taste some of the products of Canarian gastronomy.
(This is not a main meal, we have selected picnic treats and snacks in the basket, which are often found on the table of the locals.)
On this day you can expect mostly simple urban walks, in some places with a few steps. Wearing warmer clothing during the winter months (November-March) is highly recommended because at altitudes above 1,500 meters (4900 feet) we can also encounter temperatures below 10 ºC, which feels even colder on a cloudy, windy day.
Small group tour ensures a personalized experience with local insights.
9:00 am
Where we’ll meet
The tour begins in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria at 09:00. Meeting point is at the port exit (about 2 minutes walk from the gangway of your cruise ship.
We’ll be waiting for you outside the port, directly to the right of the security checkpoint.
The slow rhythm of Canarian life
The religious center of Gran Canaria
We’ll begin in Teror, the town closest to every Canarian’s heart.
A living postcard of Gran Canaria, full of character: narrow cobbled streets, wooden balconies, colourful houses, locals chatting in the plaza, a basilica which interior being quite richly decorated for such a small town. The basilica is home to the island’s patron saint (Nuestra Señora del Pino – “Our Lady of the Pine”). In every corner has a detail to catch your eye. Teror is where tradition lives and breathes. Strolling here feels like stepping into the island’s history. But what makes the visit unforgettable are the small surprises: taste the unique Canarian coffee – the kind of coffee that will make you forget Starbucks ever existed :-), discover a small shop (the house of fragrances and smiles) where unique handmade perfumes are created, and simply enjoy the slow rhythm of Canarian life. An oasis compared to big, busy places.
The immense power of volcanoes
Spectacular Viewpoints
Places you won’t find in any guidebook. Our small groups mean we can sneak into hidden viewpoints and narrow roads that large buses simply can’t reach.
The first is in one of Gran Canaria’s largest valleys, offering a vast, deep, and unforgettable view. Lush vegetation and rural Canarian life, with no tourist impact. On a clear day, the view stretches all the way to Las Palmas.
The road winds toward the center of the island, where we’ll gaze into Gran Canaria’s largest crater. Fun fact: it wasn’t formed by a dramatic volcanic eruption – curious? You’ll hear the fascinating story right here.
Like floating between the mountains
Geographical center of Gran Canaria
At an altitude of almost 1600 meters (5250 ft), a cross marks the geographical center of Gran Canaria. This place is bordered by historical roads that were also used by the aborigines centuries ago, and is now a popular hiking and leisure destination among locals. It is also home to the highest hotel on the island. The magnificent view makes us feel as if we are floating between the mountains of the island.
Sweetness in the heart of Gran Canaria
One of the most Beautiful Villages in Spain
The next settlement on our tour was the first in the Canary Islands to appear on the prestigious list of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain, Tejeda. This beautiful mountain village is set in a huge volcanic basin in the heart of Gran Canaria. This place provides an ideal view to the iconic monoliths Roque Nublo and Roque Bentayga, striking symbols of Gran Canaria. If we ask local people in Gran Canaria what there is in the village, they will tell us “almonds”. So we can not miss a visit to the island’s most famous confectionists where you can find a variety of cakes made with almonds. The combination of the magnificent view and the uniquely delicious cakes will ensure that our trip to this place will linger in your memory for a long time.
Dip your toes in, strike a pose, or just chill out – this is your moment.
Taste the Canarian flavors and vibe
Unique Canarian Tapas Picnic
And because we like to make things extra special, you’ll enjoy a unique Canarian Tapas Picnic in the heart of Gran Canaria. Homemade with love. Full picnic basket, local fruits and flavors you won’t find in any restaurant, pleasant atmosphere, great location.
We invite you to a real culinary experience!
It’s our way of letting you taste the island’s soul.
The guardian of the mountains
Roque Nublo
The Roque Nublo is Gran Canaria’s biggest symbol, an iconic natural monument (carved by nature), a huge basalt rock monolith almost 70 meters high which arose as a result of volcanic activity and erosion. Here we will also see what special rock formations nature can create. And when you hear their names, you’re sure to smile at how apt they are.
On this tour we DO NOT walk up to the top! (This is part of our regular Day Tour #03.) With a little walk you can enjoy the beautiful landscape and view, close to the highest point of the island, at an altitude of about 1600 meters (5250 feet).
Where mountains touch the clouds
The highest point of Gran Canaria
It’s time to drive to the very top: Pico de las Nieves. At 1,956 meters, this is Gran Canaria’s highest point and the third highest in the entire Canary Islands. From up here the 360° panorama will leave you speechless. The views from the peak are nothing less than stunning. The iconic Roque Nublo, the dunes of Maspalomas, endless valleys, and on clear days even Tenerife’s Teide floating on the horizon – it’s all here in one breathtaking moment, the ultimate “wow” moment, the crown of the day.
The silence of the heights
The Forgotten Viewpoint
But the surprises don’t stop there. On our way down, we’ll pause at the Forgotten Viewpoint. Hidden away from the crowds, this off-the-map lookout feels like a secret kept by the mountains themselves. The depths below are mesmerizing – a must for mountain lovers.
One last glance, the harbor at your feet
Las Palmas (viewpoint)
To conclude our tour we’ll stop in the capital at a viewpoint, overlooking Las Palmas where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the harbor and your cruise ship.
– Plus many more great views and landmarks along the way.
– Relax during the journey back to your hotel, where the tour concludes.
